What made you choose 500 Lake Shore Drive?
John J. and Lisa S.:
Lisa: I relocated from Canada in July 2014. Working with my company assigned real estate agent, I viewed what seemed like endless possibilities for luxury living. This building was the second out of 8 I viewed in one day, and I quickly found myself comparing all to 500 Lake Shore Drive as the one to beat. Nothing beat it! From the moment I walked in, I said to myself, and anyone around me: I need to live here. I moved in on September 15, 2014.
John: Following my divorce, I wanted a change of life from the suburbs, and in December 2014 I viewed half a dozen luxury apartment rentals; this was the last one on my view list. It was not referred by my assisting agent, but by my research online. As I walked in, I knew this was my place of residence. I had an overwhelming feeling that there was something special here for me. The tour of units and amenities confirmed my initial opinion. I moved in on February 2, 2015.

How long have you lived at 500 Lake Shore Drive?
John J. and Lisa S.:
Lisa: Since September 2014, I have lived in 3 units within the building. How is that possible? I first moved into a one bedroom (pool facing) ‘08’ unit on the 19th floor. This was for my work assignment, which ended (along with my legal ability to work / live in the US) in September 2015. Sadly I had to return to Canada. I say sadly because during that time in 1908, I met John. I will let John speak to the rest of the timeline.
John: I have been a resident since my initial move in date February 2015. When Lisa returned to Canada, we commuted (Chicago / Toronto) for several months until her return in April 2016. We moved into my convertible on the 22nd floor and instantly I lost all my extra storage space, just kidding! We quickly determined we needed additional space, and working with management moved into the one bedroom corner unit on 29 that we just love. Using one of the twin closets in the center hallway for my shoes helps a lot. It is a give and take; however, the view of the pool from the 29th floor is further and needed an additional lens, so Lisa was kind enough to purchase for me a high powered telescope.

What’s your favorite story from living here?
John J. and Lisa S.:
We share the same ‘favorite’ story. I first noticed John, from looking down at the pool one day from my unit. I saw this silver haired fox, leaning on the handrail, talking on his iPhone. I quickly dressed and ran down to 12th floor. He was gone. This pattern repeated itself for several days… John became known to me and my friends as “Mr. Illusive”. One day, June 5th 2015 to be exact, I was laying poolside, listening to music, and without noticing he had set up two lounge chairs away from me. Since there was a girl between us, I wasn’t sure where his interest lay. I looked up and saw him, nervously I adjusted wardrobe and repositioned how I was sitting. I wondered if he noticed me. He since has told me it was the reason he came down (we still joke that it may have been the other resident).
He spoke first and said, “Hi, I’m John. I’ve seen you around." That was the beginning. From then I continually tried to accidentally on purpose bump into him on 12, often turning into a prune in the hot tub.
My stalking must have worked, and I knew there was a magic chemistry when he kissed my cheek ‘goodbye’ following a brief encounter in the business center.
We call our union “the second half”.

What are your dog’s names and what breed are they?
John J. and Lisa S.:
We have two dogs that occasionally visit us (both belong to our daughters).
Bella is Clare’s dog (John’s daughter). She is a white 10 year old maltipoo. Smart as a whip. Known to all residents as the well-behaved dog that walks dutifully beside John who stops at cross walks all without a lead. She will impress you as she cocks her head to one side when spoken to, as if to understand the English language.
Hannah is Stephanie’s dog (Lisa’s daughter). She is a Yorkie. Hannah does not fetch and basically does not think she is a dog. She is the princess she has been raised to be, and adores me (Lisa). When going for a walk, she protects me even if it means going up against the largest dogs in the park. She is spirited for a 9 year old. Hannah is the first pet our family owned. She is so loved and has such a lovely disposition. The Dog City dog walker at 500 Lake Shore Drive, Alison, just loves her.
The Related Life:
Where is your dog’s go-to spot in your apartment?
John J. and Lisa S.:
When we are not home, Bella’s go-to spot is the lamb-skin rug by the window and Hannah’s is the back of the sofa, looking out the window.

When we are home, they both follow us around the over 1000 square foot condo. While Bella is more independent and likes to be within view of us, Hannah is usually nuzzled into my (Lisa) leg.
The Related Life:
What is the best trick you have ever taught your dog?
John J. and Lisa S.:
Hannah does not do tricks, and Bella as mentioned is a no leash required, whether in the burbs or in the city.
The Related Life:
Your favorite things to do with your dog in the city are…
John J. and Lisa S.:
Walking in the park and the beach.
The Related Life:
In what special way do you spoil/pamper your dog?
John J. and Lisa S.:
We feed them homemade rice and chicken and they only get filtered / bottled water. They both love wearing clothes and I (Lisa) love dressing them. Not sure if that is more for me or them. John wants me to emphasize that this is Lisa responding.
The Related Life:
What are you looking forward to most regarding Dog City?
John J. and Lisa S.:
We have taken advantage of the Dog City services. Grooming and overnight care. Our dog’s love the walkers, especially Alison. They will run to her when they see her in lobby with other dogs.
